Grand Forest Metsovo - Small Luxury Hotels of the World

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! On December 7th we were on our way to Grand Forest Metsovo and we stopped at a local tourist information centre to use the washroom. When we came out 15 minutes later, our car had a broken window and all of our belongings, money and passports were stolen from the car. When I called Grand Forest Metsovo to tell them what happened, customer service representative replied "just come back tomorrow then". Then after cancelling reservation, another customer service agent emailed me to say they do not do refunds at all but can give me credit for 3 months. What kind of policy is that? Especially when it's not a busy season and most of the hotel was empty. This is not the level of service you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Bad management all around!

A wonderful hotel set in idyllic surroundings, encircled by forests giving awe-inspiring views across the mountains and valleys. This was the first time my wife and I travelled to the north of Greece and we are already planning a return trip, we loved it that much. We flew into Thessaloniki airport and drove the 2 and half hours drive to the hotel (it cost about €6 in tolls - very cheap). It's an easy drive with beautiful views mainly on a dual carriageway. You climb up a winding road to arrive at the hotel, greeted with mountain views and by a friendly team member, who welcomed us into the lobby. The aromas of a wood fire, large windows to absorb the views and a relaxed atmosphere, your shoulders immediately drop, knowing you have arrived in sanctuary. We spent three days pampering ourselves in the spa, eating great food in the restaurant and playing board games in the evening (Well UNO). I didn't want to leave! The rooms offered subtle opulence with even the little details taken care of. For a three-course meal, with a bottle of wine for 2 people, it was about €80, a very inexpensive price for the quality and service you receive. The Lamb was delicious. Spa treatments started from about €45 and went to about €130. My wife and I both had a couple of treatments during our stay and I am glad we did. It was food for the soul. We went during the off-season and it felt like we had the hotel to ourselves. The indoor pool was available from 6pm to all guests and you could book a slot in the day to enjoy it privately. Few things worth noting. It is more casual than you'd expect, so relax, enjoy the Greek hospitality and do not hesitate to wear your bathrobe around the hotel. Secondly, it's worth hiring a car to visit the local village and drive further afield, the roads are very easy and not particularly busy. Finally, we did the truffle hunting excursion. It was a wonderful day out walking with the ladies and their 3 dogs. They found so many truffles! The walk takes you through wonderful forests, down to the river bed and then is finished off by a beautiful meal back at their micro-farm. To finish this review, I would probably say it was the best hotel I've stayed at. I look forward to returning!

All time classic hotel. I recommend it especially for winter season. Very very delicious and varied breakfast. View and the pool are a must. If you take the opportunity to visit it stay in all day in order to close an appointment for the indoor pool.

What a truly amazing experience this was. The property is located on top of a mountain and IN the mountain. The staff was super friendly and very accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable. The view was spectacular. The food was delicious, and I really wished we could have taken advantage of their amazing breakfast buffet. Be forewarned that the trip up to the hotel was scary (winding roads around the mountain with drop offs) and knowing that the trip down would be equally as scary, we chose not to eat. If you're not prone to getting carsick - go for it! Lovely lobby with a bar attached and awesome fireplace in the middle plus private areas just outside (glass enclosed). We highly recommend this hotel Also, pay attention when you're shown to your room - it's easy to get lost there. But that should NOT stop you!

We were picked up from Ioannina by Dallas Taxi service, organized by the hotel , and it was fantastic (friendly, clean, timely and fairly priced). As already mentioned, the hotel is set in a beautiful spellbinding location. The picture of its buildings do not do them justice. They are unobtrusive as possible, and lovingly maintained inside and out. Room are spacious and comfortable, with magnificent views over the village of Metsovo and the mountains around. Staff is welcoming and obliging, apart from a couple of exception, like the lady at the spa who treated me like dirt when I asked whether the pool has stairs or a ladder (I had two hip replacement in the last year) and the gentleman who shushed us in the lift because he was talking to some guests. The rest are nice and eager to please. Food is tasty varied and thoughtfully prepared. We had come to rest and relax, and we did and were happy, but be advised that if you don’t have a car there is very little to do in the immediate vicinity unless you take part in the trips organised by the hotel or take a taxi to Metsovo ((15 to 20 euro, same excellent Dallas taxi service) .

Fantastic hotel but a few errors which were avoidable. We were greeted warmly on our arrival by the fantastic reception staff and that set the standard for our stay. All really professional and attentive. Room was well equipped with picturesque views over to Metsova. They use nespresso capsules in the room and provided extras on request. The food was beautifully prepared with one of the best breakfast options, I have ever experienced. All extras , drinks, mini bar and restaurant, incredibly reasonably priced. The only and big negative was , most of the publicity shows an infinitely pool. Look at small print as we were not allowed to use , even though the temperature was around 30C . In fact we could not even sit outside on the first afternoon, as they were cleaning the pool . We were sent inside , the manager could not be bothered to tell us but sent out a junior member of staff to call us in . It was a hot afternoon 28C.When I spoke to senior member of staff I asked why couldn’t the cleaning of the pool be done early morning or afternoon but didn’t get a proper response. Also be mindful they have a indoor pool which you have to book for a 15 minute slot along with 15 minutes in the jacuzzi. Pretty ridiculous all in all. Nearby Metsova is worth a visit and take in the winery.

We arrived quite late by the poor maintenance rood to the unic view at the hotel. Very nice lobby and friendly staff a warm fire welcomed us including the calming sent of burning wood. We where escorted to our room (basic one) and had to use 3!!! Lifts. Dinning room is big with very uncomfortable chairs, with a holle at the back rest. Breakfast was outstanding good with many local goodies and a great choice ( it was served by a superb friendly team as we where the only gusts.....having breakfast) About the room, big spacious good comfortable bed. Regarding The style and bathroom could/should be upgraded, as the sower hair dryer and taps and layout. More upraddes needed as it was quite enojing: No electricity socket for computer / phone near the bed. Very poor Internet reception in the room, not excepteble in 2022! Unfortunately we had no time for spa and pool.

Staff was very friendly and polite and service around the hotel was absolutely great too. Our room was very nice with the view to the Metsovo. The beds were excellent too. Once we ordered burgers from the room service and they were so delicious (with local smoked cheese). The breakfast was one of the best we have ever seen before, so great variety of products. Highly recommended!

We spent 5 days out of 21 days in Greece in the mountains at this beautifully breathtaking hotel. From enjoying the peaceful mornings on our balcony with coffee, phenomenal meals, views of the gorgeous Village of Metsovo below with bellowing chimneys of the locals and the chiming of the cuckoo birds, we cannot say enough about our experience. Thank you, Grand Forest, for creating the perfect, quiet getaway. Our only disappointment was the pool and availability of freedom to walk into it and the sauna or stream room, which is an extra charge. But, overall, beautiful experience!
